Become an Umpire in South Carolina

To become a baseball umpire in South Carolina, you must follow specific steps to get started. Here’s a breakdown of what you need to know:

Register with the South Carolina High School League:

Register with the South Carolina High School League (SCHSL) online. SCHSL referee and umpire registration. The registration form for new and transferring umpires must be printed and completed by hand. The complete form can then be turned in to the local district director. All registering umpires will be asked to sign a code of ethics.

Local Association:

Several local umpire associations assist umpires by holding meetings and clinics and updating you about rule changes.

Take the Online Exam:

After completing your registrations, you must take the online exam to demonstrate your understanding of the game’s rules. A passing grade of 80% is required. 

Fees and Dues:

Be prepared to pay registration fees to the SCHSL and your local association. These fees cover the cost of essential resources like the NFHS Rule Book, Case Book, and Officials Manual.
