Become an Umpire in North Dakota

To become a baseball umpire in North Dakota, you must follow specific steps to get started. Here’s a breakdown of what you need to know:

Registration:

All umpires must be registered with the North Dakota High School Activities Association (NDHSAA). Registration for new officials should be done before July 1st for the upcoming sports year and may be completed online.

Exams and Training:

Umpires must attend a local workshop that focuses on using proper signals and mechanics while applying rules in game situations.

To become certified, you must pass the officials’ test on the NFHS exam site with a score of at least 75%.

Each year before the season starts, umpires must retake the NFHS rules exam and attend the umpire workshop and rules clinic.

Every two years, umpires must take the NFHS concussion management course.

To stay certified, umpires must renew their registration yearly with the NDHSAA by July 1st.

Fees and Dues:

Be prepared to pay registration fees to your local association and the NDHSAA. These fees cover essential resources like Rule Books and Case Books and the information you need to prepare for the online exam.
