Become an Umpire in Mississippi

To become a baseball umpire in Mississippi, you must follow specific steps to get started. Here’s a breakdown of what you need to know:

Registeristration:

All officials must be registered with the Mississippi High School Activities Association(MHSAA). The local associations handle registration.

Local Associations:

Reach out and join the officials’ association in your area to begin the process. They handle registration and training for umpires. To find your local association, use the contact us page on the MHSAA website. Your local association will provide training through instructional meetings and training. They’ll also update you on rule changes as needed.

Age Requirements:

To become an umpire in Mississippi, you must be 18 or older and a high school graduate.

 Exams & Training

Umpires must attend at least five yearly meetings with the local association, attend an annual rules clinic, and provide a certificate of good health signed by a physician.

 Post Season

Baseball umpires must attend either an MHSAA clinic every two years or an MHSAA camp every three years to be eligible to work post-season tournaments.

Fees and Dues:

Be prepared to pay registration fees to your local association and the MHSAA. These fees cover the cost of essential resources like the NFHS Rule Book, Case Book, Officials Manual, and insurance.
