Become an Umpire in Kentucky

To become a baseball umpire in Kentucky, you must follow specific steps to get started. Here’s a breakdown of what you need to know:

Register with the Kentucky High School Athletics Association (KHSAA)

The first step in becoming an umpire in Kentucky is registering and meeting the requirements with the Kentucky High School Athletics Association (KHSAA). You cannot be assigned games without first being registered with the KHSAA. The KHSAA uses the arbitersports system for registration.

Age Requirements:

You must be 18 to become a high school umpire in Kentucky. However, there are opportunities for 14 – 17-year-olds to get involved with officiating through the Junior Officials Program to work below high school level games.

Take the Online Exam:

Part I tests are taken online, and you must pass the exam to complete your registration. 

Fees and Dues:

Be prepared to pay registration fees to your local association and the KHSAA. These fees cover the cost of essential resources like the NFHS Rule Books and Case Book and all the necessary information to prepare you for the online exam.
