Become an Umpire in Utah

To become a baseball umpire in Utah, you must follow specific steps to get started. Here’s a breakdown of what you need to know:

Register with UHSAA:

Visit the ArbiterSports website and click on the registration link. Choose the sport you want to officiate and complete the registration process. This registers you with the Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA).

Local Officials Association:

Sign up with your local official’s association. You can find their contact details in the UHSAA Officials Leadership Directory. Local associations help with game assignments for sub-varsity games and organize meetings for additional rules training and evaluations.

Training Material:

You’ll receive a packet once your application is accepted before the sports season starts. This packet includes specific rulebooks for your sport and information about UHSAA rules clinics. You’ll need to take a 100-question online rules test (Part 1 Test) and score at least 80% to pass. If you fail, you get one free retake, but any additional retakes cost $15. Also, a background check is automatically done as part of your registration.

Rules Clinics: UHSAA conducts mandatory rules clinics before each season. The dates will be listed on the website.

Post Season Assignments:

The Part 2 Test is mandatory for post-season varsity officials but encouraged for all officials. It’s open-book and requires a 90% accuracy to pass. No retakes are allowed.
