Become an Umpire in Missouri

To become a baseball umpire in Missouri, you must follow specific steps to get started. Here’s a breakdown of what you need to know:

Registration:

Register with the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) to become an official.

Exams and Training:

All umpires must pass an open-book exam with a score of at least 75%. You have three times to pass the exam. You must also attend an annual rules interpretation meeting annually.

You should attend a yearly mechanics clinic for your first three years to stay sharp. All officials are expected to take a “Part II Sports Rules Exam” to help them stay up to date on the rules of their sport each year.

Fees and Dues:

Expect to pay registration fees to both your local association and the MHSAA. These fees cover essential resources like rule books and exam preparation materials. They also contribute to the administration and resources necessary for officiating.
