To become a baseball umpire in Alabama, you must follow specific steps to get started. Here’s a breakdown of what you need to know:
Register with the Alabama High School Association:
The Alabama High School Association (AHSA) uses the Dragonfly system. Your first registration step with the AHSA is creating an account on DragonFly.
Local Association:
Once you create your profile on Dragonfly, find the official associations in your area. Once you are registered with a local association, they will contact the AHSA and verify your membership. Your local association also holds meetings and clinics and updates you about rule changes.
Student Program:
The AHSAA offers a program to certify students while in high school. For more information, you can contact the central office at 334-263-6994.
Take the Online Exam:
After completing your registrations, you must take the online exam to demonstrate your understanding of the game’s rules. A passing grade of 80% is required. You must also attend an online clinic.
Fees and Dues:
Be prepared to pay registration fees to the AHSA and your local association. These fees cover the cost of essential resources like the NFHS Rule Book, Case Book, and Officials Manual.
